This Week's Prayers
(Meditation: Galatians 6:3-5)
O God, You know my heart much better than I do. Some days I'm hostile. It comes out when I try to change others unreasonably. It comes out when I try to prove that I'm always right. It comes out when I try to blame others: another person at work, the boss, the company, the government. God, forgive me for hating my own frailties so much that I become hostile, and help me to take responsibility for my shortcomings. In Jesus' name. Amen.
(Meditation: Psalm 23)
God, You are my Creator, who made me in Your image. You are the Pioneer of my faith, who goes ahead to forge a path for me. You are my Provider, and my cup overflows. You are my Light, shining in the darkness to point the way for me. You are my Savior, forgiving my sins as I confess and repent. You are my Shepherd, watching over me and leading me to lie down in green pastures, and rest beside still waters. You restore my soul. You are with me even in the valley of the shadow of death. You are my God, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Praise be to You, oh God!
(Meditation: Philippians 4:6-7)
O God, sometimes I'm afraid. I feel fragile and vulnerable. Tension grinds away in the pit of my stomach. When my identity is grounded in worldly things, I am always anxious, because I know that my success, my health, and my income can be taken away from me in a flash. But when my identity is grounded in You, I relax and live in peace. God, help me to give myself completely to You. Through Jesus Christ, my Lord. Amen.
(Meditation: Romans 12:17-21)
God, can the Palestinians and Israelis ever live in peace? Help us to understand what is going on today in Israel. God, what is YOUR will for Israel? What is YOUR will for the Palestinians? What is YOUR will for Iraq, Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and North Korea? Grant our own nation wisdom and courage as we try to help bring about peace. Show us Your will, O God.
(Meditation: I John 4:9-11)
God, one great sign of love is a simple smile. It spreads joy. It spreads love. And when I smile, I feel better, too. God, give me a smile that comes from knowing that You love me . . . a smile that reflects my thanks . . . a smile that reflects the peace that passes understanding . . . a smile that radiates Your love. In Jesus' name. Amen.
